rivendell fellows
seeking wisdom in all of life…together.
Our 9 month intensive immerses fellows in daily personal rhythms integrated inside a collaborative supportive community in order to create disciples of Jesus who live faithfully in their context and use their resources to wisely engage their life and face the challenges at hand.
Our goal is for all participants to leave energized, supported, and prepared to take their immediate next steps in peace and all future steps in wisdom (Christ’s presence).
All we require of participants is that they bring their gifts, projects, and questions with their hands open to the power of the God working in, through, and in spite of a willing group of humans. When this happens, each participant learns, grows, and finds wisdom for themselves, for their fellowship, and for the world.

2025-26 Rivendell Fellows
When - September 1, 2025 - June, 1, 2026
Where - Havelock North, New Zealand
Each Fellowship will be uniquely crafted…yet participating in the same dance.
Each fellowship will focus on…
-
We will seek to create regular spiritual rhythms as a community and as individuals to help each fellow flourish. This will be tailored to each group, but will include…
Prayer/Meditation and Presence - We will seek regular individual and community interaction with the divine.
Thoughtful Study - We will explore our cultures and our world through the faithful lens of the bible.
Humble Collaboration - Each participant will be sharing their experiences and learned wisdom to create a pattern of learning from others. This will be reinforced through healthy church and community interaction as we learn to be part of the body.
-
We design the fellowship to foster deep relationships among those involved in the program. Through shared experiences, deep conversations, and intentional life-on-life connection we all learn what it means to have meaningful, lasting community.
This is done through sharing…
Projects to help the local community.
Meals that we prepare or are prepared for us.
The joys and sorrows of our lives (current and past).
Encouraging words for one another alongside hard truths.
Ideas and hopes for the future.
sharing needs we have and the gifts we bring.
Your life with mentors and others who intentionally walk beside you.
Our hope is that you leave the fellows year with a faithful and supportive network upon which a life of flourishing can be built.
-
Often the hardest person to love is ourselves. In our fellowships we long for each participant to see themselves as God sees them…in love. Not the conditional, easy, self serving love of our cultures and media, but the unconditional, truthful, and generous love of God. Spirituality leads us there. Psychology leads us there. Sociology leads us there. Our hearts lead us there. So let’s go there. Inside our program fellows will do this by being invited into community explorations into…
Mental health topics such as our relationships with time, fear and anxiety, boundaries, etc.
Cultural topics such as our relationships to technology, our own bodies, our culture of origin, etc.
Relational topics such as conflict management, forgiveness, non-violent communication, etc.
Vocational topics such as collaborative and cross silo problem solving, design thinking and collaborative design processes, mentoring, and integrating a wholistic or redemptive work ethic, etc.
-
Our only requirement is that you bring your questions or your project where you need a breakthrough. It can be related to your…
Vocation (examples: I am starting my own business or I am feeling burnt out at my current job)
Spiritual (examples: I am not sure I believe in this or I want to learn more about prayer)
Relationships (examples: I want to learn to be a better leader or I struggle with feeling included).
Personal Growth (examples: I struggle with Imposter Syndrome or I cannot say “No”)
Bring this with you and open yourself to God working and he will. It will not be easy, but it will be good. We are broken and beautiful creatures surrounded by divine love and care.
Collaborating together with humans and the divine is a beautiful dance. Sometimes we dance in the dark and it is hard, but we are not alone. In that darkness we truly learn our dance steps, how to communicate with our fellow dancers, and to lean into the music. Then when the light comes, the beauty is truly seen.
-
Our God is a working, risk taking creator and we are made in his image. So often in the world today, our relationship with work is out of balance. We either worship it or hate it. Neither is the correct path. At the Rivendell Fellows we seek to help each participant learn how to integrate work into their life in a fruitful and faithful way. We do this through…
Vocational Placement - If the fellow does not come with a digitally nomadic job, then we will work to place the fellow in an internship of interest.
Vocational Mentorship - Each felllow will be coached by our staff and we will find an elder in your field or a similar field for you to learn from.
Vocational Integration - We will be living together as a community, learning rhythms that help us fully live into who we are…including when we are at work.
-
Fellowships will participate in the following…

Meetings with Rivendell Team to customize your experience, Interviews with local and global discussion leaders, mentorship meetings, curated trips around NZ.
Weekly Rhythms

What are the details?
When is the next fellowship?
August 15, 2025 through May 15, 2026
Exact dates may change as we finalize participants.
Where is it based?
The program is based in Havelock North New Zealand. It is operated in partnership with International Xchange Organization (USA) and Arohanui Church (NZ).
How much does it cost?
The fellowship program fee is $10,000 USD and includes all programming costs, housing for 10 months, and monthly trips. This fee does not include travel to and from the program, any visa costs, or food during the program. Every participant will have access to a kitchen and will live within walking distance to a grocery store. Other needed transportation will be provided.
Scholarships are available.
Vocational Opportunities
You are encouraged to apply if your job is virtual and can be done from anywhere. We currently know of part time opportunities for a worship leader, artist, church planter, and project manager. If those are not a fit, we will do our best to find a possible internship for you in your field.
Where would I live?
We work with each participant to find appropriate housing in the Havelock North area.
Do I need a visa?
If you are coming from another country then yes. We recommend the Working Holiday Visa. This must be applied for and accepted prior to the program. If the visa is denied, then we will return any payment made toward participation in the program.
When are applications due?
This is the first year of the program so we will accept applications up until the program is full.
How did this program come about?
This program and its creators stand on the shoulders of many wonderful humans (and their organizations). The list is too long but definitely includes…J.R.R. Tolkien and the role of Rivendell in his fantasy novels, The Fellows International, DSIL Global and their network, Enspiral, IXO, Saint Francis, Tim Keller (City to City, etc), and so many good friends and family whose hospitality and love have created safe spaces for flourishing around the world.
Who is leading the program?
The Director of Rivendell House will lead the program along with the support of Arohanui Church and other lovely souls in Havelock North, Hastings, and Napier.
Who is the ideal candidate?
There is no ideal demographic. If you know what you need to know, already have the truth figured out, and have arrived at the end of your journey then we truly have nothing to offer you. However, if you are still on your journey, even if you are lost in a valley, and there is still room to learn a new dance or two (no matter your age) then we welcome your application.
What is the process from here?
Click on the “Learn More” button and give us your basic info and we will email you an application. Complete the application and the references. Once those are in, there will be an interview. If all that goes well, then you start making plans.
